FAQ

How-to questions from this guide, together with the questions already answered on the site.

Cannot connect, or no words

I scanned and nothing happened

Confirm both devices are on the same Wi-Fi, the PC dialog is on Local LAN, and you are scanning the code on screen now (an expired code refreshes itself). A hotspot plus an office network will not connect.

Confirm which code you scanned: “Sign in a phone by QR” in the web console only signs in the account. To reach a computer, scan Add phone → Cloud relay on that PC. The cloud card on the PC must already have a Cloud Key.

I spoke, but the computer shows no words

Is the computer unlocked, and is the caret in a box that can take text? Does the phone header show this PC as connected? If you refused the microphone the first time, turn it on in system settings. On macOS, turn on Accessibility or words cannot enter other apps.

Can I still use it without a recognition engine?

Yes. Hold-to-talk will fail; tap the input strip, type, then tap “Deliver” — delivery still works if the phone is connected to the computer. To speak again, set up Settings → Speech recognition on the PC, or switch to the official cloud relay.

Will typed words in the box actually send?

Yes. Typed delivery does not go through a recognition engine. Checked against the current product: if the box has text, nothing is already sending, and the phone is connected to the PC, “Deliver” sends it. It will not send if the phone is not connected to a computer (Notes is a different path and stays on the phone).

I do not want the cloud — only home use

Choose the same local network. No account, no key. Scan Add phone → Local LAN on the PC. Recognition then uses the engine on your computer.

Install and account

How do I install the computer / phone app?

See Get FlowMic on the site, or the latest GitHub Release. Windows: MSI or portable. macOS: the notarized Apple-silicon build, with Accessibility on. Android: sideload the APK. iPhone / iPad: install the public TestFlight beta. Linux comes later.

I cannot find registration on the phone

Correct — registration is only on the web. Open flowmic.app/signin and tap “Create account”. The app only signs in.

The verification email did not arrive

Wait for the button countdown, send again, and check the junk folder.

How do I register, sign in, and bind a device in the console?

You only need a console account for the official cloud relay: register and verify on the web, paste the Cloud Key into Cloud relay on the PC, sign in on the phone with the same account, then scan the pairing code on the PC. The same LAN does not need a login or the console.

How do I buy, and how do refunds work?

After you register you are on Free. Pro and Max are monthly subscriptions: open “Subscription” in the console and choose a plan. You can cancel at any time, and the plan keeps working until the end of the period you have paid for. Refund terms are on the Refunds page, linked in the footer of every page.

How to use it

Same LAN or “any network” — how do I choose?

If the phone and the computer share a Wi-Fi, prefer the same LAN: data stays on the home or office network, no account, and pictures can stay original. If you are apart, or the phone is on cellular, use the official cloud relay — both sides only need the internet. Both paths deliver words to the caret. Neither is remote control.

When should I use each of the three modes?

Realtime: comments, replies, forms — speak and it appears. Translate: speak one language, write another. Organize: turn a long spoken stretch into cleaner paragraphs before it lands.

I speak in a jumble — will the words still be usable?

If you are speaking to an AI (a chat box or a coding assistant), Realtime is enough. If a person will read it and you want structure, use Organize. If they cannot read your language, use Translate.

Can I send pictures / screenshots?

Yes. On the same LAN you can send the original. Through the cloud relay they are compressed first. If the box accepts a pasted image, it goes straight in; otherwise paste it on the computer afterwards.

Can I keep it on the phone first, then send it to a computer?

Yes. Choose Quick Notes when speaking to save thoughts on your phone. You can easily forward them to any paired computer whenever you are ready.

How is this different from Win+H or a cross-screen keyboard?

Win+H uses the computer microphone and stays on that machine. FlowMic uses the phone as the mic — it does not take over the computer microphone, and you do not switch input methods. It is not remote control and will not press Enter or Send for you.

Recognition, environment, and cost

How do I set up recognition / a language model myself?

You do not, on the official cloud relay. To speak on the same Wi-Fi: Settings → Speech recognition on the PC. The routing table’s columns are Language, Engine preset, and Endpoint. The factory rows are zh and *, both on “Built-in Local (offline)” with no endpoint. If you pick a self-hosted preset, change the Endpoint to your address and tap Test connection. Translate and Organize also need the Language model pane. See “Set up recognition: models and engines” in the same-local-network chapter.

What environment do I need?

A Windows or macOS computer plus an Android phone on the same LAN is enough to start. Across networks, use the cloud relay. Linux comes later; iPhone / iPad works via the public TestFlight beta.

Does it keep listening to me?

No. The microphone works only while you hold to talk, and stops when you release. It does not read the screen, capture the screen, record in the background, or register the phone as the computer’s microphone — Zoom cannot use it. On the same LAN with an engine on that network, audio and text stay on that network. If you point a self-hosted setup at your own cloud recognition key, audio goes to the vendor you chose.

Is the free plan enough?

Registering puts you on Free: a free allowance that covers trying it out and light use. If you dictate every day it runs out before the month ends, and Pro or Max is the next step — monthly subscriptions you can cancel at any time. The Pricing page lists what each plan includes.

Where do I get logs if something goes wrong?

Both the computer and the phone can export logs from Settings. Issues go to the GitHub link in the header.
