If hold-to-talk fails, type and send first

On the same Wi-Fi, if the computer is not yet set up to turn speech into words, hold-to-talk fails. The app is not broken: if the phone is already connected to the computer, type instead — tap the input strip, type, then tap “Deliver” — and the words still reach the caret.

Checked against the current product: typed delivery does not go through recognition. If the box has text, nothing is already sending, and the phone is connected to this PC, “Deliver” sends it.

Diagram: the banner is the product’s own sentence for a missing engine. The input strip still works — tap it, type, and deliver.

On the official cloud relay, recognition is hosted on the cloud side — you usually do not run a model yourself.
On the same LAN, if you want hold-to-talk, set it up under Settings → Speech recognition on the PC. The step-by-step walkthrough is “Set up recognition” in the same-local-network chapter.
If the microphone permission is off, hold-to-talk also fails. Typed send is unaffected.
