Linux

FlowMic runs on 64-bit Intel or AMD Linux PCs (ARM is not supported). There are two ways to install it: a .deb package for Ubuntu, Debian, and derivative distributions, or a portable zip archive for others (tested on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS).

Regular install (.deb)

Download the .deb package from our release page, then run this command in the directory containing the file to let apt resolve runtime dependencies automatically:

sudo apt install ./FlowMic_*_amd64.deb

To uninstall FlowMic, run:

sudo apt remove flowmic

At the end of the installation, the terminal may display a notice starting with “N:” that mentions “_apt” and permission issues. This is only informational, does not affect the installation, and can be safely ignored.

Portable version (zip archive)

Extract the zip archive to any folder and run FlowMic directly. If required system libraries are missing, the launcher will prompt you with the installation command.

Install missing runtime libraries on Ubuntu with the following command, then launch FlowMic again:

sudo apt install libwebkit2gtk-4.1-0 libjavascriptcoregtk-4.1-0 libsoup-3.0-0 libayatana-appindicator3-1

Desktop session: X11 and Wayland

Under an X11 session, FlowMic can simulate keystrokes to type transcribed text directly into any focused window, matching the experience on Windows and macOS.

Under Wayland, FlowMic launches and displays live transcriptions, but window security restrictions prevent typing into other applications. Select an X11 session (such as 'Ubuntu on Xorg') at the login screen for full functionality.

Tested on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. Other distributions may work, but have not been tested.
